Encounter With Lyft Driver

April 7, 2025

I think I should do my best to make every meeting of the East Texas Pastors’ Association. Last Thursday, I requested a Lyft to get to the meeting. When my driver arrived, James, this is the conversation that ensued:

Me: You probably want to turn around in my driveway to avoid the construction.

James: Where are you going?

Me: Heading to church

James: Church on a Thursday morning?

Me: It’s a meeting o the East Texas Pastors’ Association

James: Are you a Pastor?

Me; I’m definitely something like that

James: Do you baptize people?

Me: Yes, why yes, I do.

James: How much do you charge?

Me: I don’t charge anything.

James: I need to get baptized. Would you baptize me?

And here began the wonderful conversation about the Good News of Jesus Christ. By the time we arrived at the church, James gave his life to Christ and will be baptized this weekend. We always need to not only keep our eyes and ears open for opportunities to share the Gospel, but we have to intentionally engage with those around us.
